Kudos launches salt awareness initiative across sites

Kudos has launched a salt awareness initiative across its cafes and venues around the country to support Action on Salt, with a low in salt but high in flavour campaign as part of its ongoing wellbeing drive.

Venues up and down the country such as The John Smiths Stadium in Huddersfield, Wesley’s Café at Central Hall Westminster, The Porcupine Pantry in Penshurst Place and The Wilson Café in Cheltenham all took part in the three dimensional campaign, which focused on knowledge, inspiration and action. Teams were educated on the health impact of salt and inspired by chefs to create new recipes using high flavour alternatives by adding citrus and spices.

The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence estimates that every 1g salt reduction could save our over-burdened NHS £1.5bn in healthcare costs.

Chief Executive of Kudos, Matthew Herter, commented, “It’s been an insightful month for everyone at Kudos and we are always happy to be involved with initiatives that can make a huge difference in people’s everyday lives.

'Sometimes people focus on a single ingredient in their diet, with the likes of sugar being in the spotlight for example. Therefore we took the opportunity to highlight other areas of awareness and provide some practical advice and recipes for our customers to experience, proving you can experience fuller flavours with less salt.”

Health and wellbeing is a huge part of the Kudos essence, which previously launched a heart-health campaign with the British Heart Foundation. The company is taking a holistic approach to health and wellbeing, raising awareness by infusing its culture and ethos, as well its menus.

The three-step approach of knowledge, inspiration and action has instilled a mentality that will be carried forward throughout the year ahead with more initiatives in the pipeline.
