Closed Grade II-listed Kent hotel comes to market

Jacobean Grade II-listed manor house, Boys Hall, situated in the parish of Willesborough on the outskirts of the thriving market town of Ashford, has been brought to the market through Christie & Co. Christie & Co is seeking offers in excess of £1.55m for the freehold interest of Boys Hall.

Set within 2.75 acres and surrounded by mature gardens, a long winding driveway leads to the impressive Kent ragstone property, which dates back to 1616 and is believed to have been built by Thomas Boys, a member of the influential Boys family.

On the ground floor, the currently closed hotel features expansive spaces, many of which retain original, character features, including a large reception hall with a chimney displaying English Delft tiles, inner halls with a period oak staircase, a drawing room, dining room, wood-paneled study and a bar and sitting room.

Additionally, there are ancillary areas comprising three cloakrooms and a well equipped kitchen, plus an air conditioned conservatory featuring a swimming pool, which is currently covered with removable timber flooring.

Ten bedrooms are situated across the first and second floors of the house, one of which features oak paneling with a domed ceiling and white marble chimneypiece with intricately carved panels, believed to have been gifted from Windsor Castle.

The property also benefits from a substantial, detached Victorian stable block with six stalls, which is believed to have been built in 1832 and also includes a tack room and a large room on the first floor. The stable block has had previous planning consent for change of use as a separate dwelling, but could also suit a variety of other uses, subject to planning permission.

Andrew Moore, Director at Christie & Co’s Maidstone office handled the sale and comments, “Boys Hall provides a fabulous and unique opportunity to acquire a wonderful historical Jacobean property that has been under the same ownership for the past 16 years.

'Although currently closed, the property could easily be reinstated into a successful hotel, restaurant and wedding venue. It is ideally suited for either a hands-on owner operator or a multiple operator looking to add a beautiful venue to their portfolio.”
