Freak Scene, the Soho based pan-Asian restaurant run by chef Scott Hallsworth, has announced a host of new dishes for the autumn menu and a new street food concept for the lunch offer.
Since opening in March 2018, Freak Scene has continued to showcase the inventive and creative Asian cooking from Scott Hallsworth and his team.
Dishes like the Chilli Crab and Avocado Wonton ‘Bombs have become firm favourites as well as his inventive riff on deep fried bao buns served with Red Duck Curry that take on a distinctive doughnut flavour and counterbalance the heat of the curry.
The eight new dishes will pack a serious punch for the colder months and will include Phar’s Thai mackerel tacos with kaffir lime mayo, Whole butter roasted lemon sole with spicy shiso ponzu and Takikomi gohan - Japanese rice hotpot with roasted pumpkin, fried tofu and wasabi.
There will also be new cocktails on the menu created by Phar Shaweewan and will include Casual Leopard with Four Pillars Bloody Gin Shiraz, Campari, Cointreau, lemongrass syrup and lime, and Golden Monkey with Monkey Shoulder Whisky, yuzu sake, lemon juice and orange bitters.
The new lunch menu has been inspired by Scott’s travels in Thailand earlier this year as he wanted the opportunity to serve dishes more casually and closer to their street food origin.
The Freak Scene Kanteen (situated in the restaurant) will be open Monday - Friday 11am-3pm and customers will be able to choose from a base of jasmine rice or thin egg noodles and then choose from a topping of Crispy Furama Fried Chicken, Spicy Thai pork sausage, Miso grilled aubergine with a chilli, lime & tomato relish and walnuts, and Slow cooked sweet soy and ginger short rib.
Customers can then further customise their dishes with homemade sauces free on the counter including Mustard Teriyaki and Thai meat sauce.
Hallsworth said, “We wanted to inject a new sense of freshness with our dishes and we’ve been working on some killer recipes over the summer to perfect these - the Pork belly donut buns are insanely good.
'The Freak Scene Kanteen has come off the back of the epic street food we ate in Thailand earlier this year and wanting to create a lunch time offering around this - fast, casual and delicious.”
The new menu and Freak Scene Kanteen launches on 14 October and will have ever evolving dishes added throughout the coming months.
