York hotel reopens for overnight guests & indoor dining after lockdown revamp

Having undertaken vast transformations, numerous upgrades and new installations, Galtres Lodge, an independently-owned hotel in the centre of York, has reopened its doors and is offering visitors a completely new experience.

The dog-friendly hotel now boasts a brand new reception area, alongside the newly refurbished Forest restaurant.

Having been closed in line with government guidance since December 2020, guests can now finally revel in luxury overnight stays in one of the 12 boutique bedrooms, which offer Georgian-themed décor and spectacular sights of York Minster.

Since announcing its reopening, bookings have been going through the roof at Galtres Lodge, cementing its status as one of the most popular places to visit in Yorkshire.

The indoor dining area has also undergone sparkling renovations. The new private dining area, fondly referred to as ‘The Hideaway’, will be serving its seasonal new spring menu.

There are starters such as Whole Yorkshire Hog - slow cooked cider pork cake, black pudding, belly pork, apple, cinnamon compote & light and crispy pork crackling, Mains include Whitby & Bridlington Crab Thermidor, and Lightly Spiced Nidderdale Chicken Breast.

To finish, guest can enjoy the likes of Cointreau Chocolate Orange Fondant, and ;Sloemotion' Hedgerow Gin & Tonic Cheesecake.

Each dish is prepared using locally sourced ingredients – including fish and meat from The Shambles market, which is just a few steps away.

For those who prefer al fresco dining, guests can dine in the hotel's newly refurbished outdoor dining area, known as ‘The Secret Garden’. Nestled away in a charming courtyard, guests can enjoy the restaurant’s à la carte menu under twinkling fairy lights, with warming heaters and overhead cover ensuring complete enjoyment, whatever the weather.

Rebecca Hill, owner of Galtres Lodge Hotel, said, “It's a wonderful feeling to be open again and to be welcoming guests at both the hotel and Forest restaurant. We're especially excited for visitors to see the results of our refurbishment, which has been keeping us busy during the lockdown and has given us something positive to focus on at an otherwise difficult time.”

“The response so far has been fantastic, and we have noticed an increase of 50% in bookings for June, which shows that consumer confidence is strong. We've also noticed a slight change in consumer behaviour since we announced our reopening, with people now planning further ahead with bookings and booking throughout the week - not just for weekends.

'This is incredibly reassuring to those working in hospitality as it shows people are still choosing to support the sector and will come at other days and times to do so.'
