Caravan Coffee Roasters to open London roastery this September

Caravan Coffee Roasters has just announced it will open a stand-alone specialty coffee roastery in London this September.

Having outgrown the roastery space to the rear of the restaurant in Caravan King’s Cross, on Granary Square, Caravan Coffee Roasters is set to open a new dedicated roastery just north of King's Cross.

Housed in an 8,500 sq ft Victorian warehouse with a pitched glazed atrium and original architectural features, the new roastery will include a coffee education studio, as well as a brew bar and café, serving daily baked goods, daily changing filter and espresso coffee, and a retail shop.

The team will also produce its own range of housemade cold-press juices, house tonics, sodas and cold brew coffee, all of which will be available at Caravan restaurants and in the onsite café and shop.

With sustainability at the core of the design, build and operations, the roastery will also feature a roof top garden, solar panels, vertical planting and wormery and pilot the very first SKA industrial sustainable scheme in the country.

The company, which was formed by Miles Kirby, Laura Harper-Hinton and Chris Ammermann (pictured) in 2010, is headed up by Mike Logue as Head of Operations and Sam Langdon as Head of Coffee, along with a crew of coffee experts. The team will move over to the new roastery from the current King's Cross location.

The larger space will allow room for a bigger and more diverse roasting operation with a new environmentally friendly Loring 70kg roaster, a separate Q-grading and quality control room, technical servicing workshop and climate-controlled green bean storage.

Alongside the roasting facilities, the new site will house a dedicated coffee education studio with custom built training pods for both Caravan Coffee Roasters' coffee partners as well as providing space to host coffee workshops and talks for the public.

Staff facilities will include a club room with a pantry and craft drinks on tap, bike storage, showers and grooming space.

A custom-designed brew bar and café, overlooking the roasting floor, will be open daily from 9am to 5pm serving a rotating selection of the freshest crop; carefully sourced filter and espresso coffees, including cold-brew coffee, kombucha, coffee sodas and tonics.

Customers will also be able to choose from a range of Caravan’s much-loved ‘daily bakes’ including tamarind date ‘morning buns’, jalapeño cornbread muffins and chocolate espresso brownies.

Caravan Coffee Roasters supplies coffee to both wholesale and retail customers in the capital and around the UK, as well as catering for the caffeine needs of the Caravan restaurants customers. The brand started life in the basement at Caravan Exmouth Market, and later at the firm's King’s Cross restaurant.
