Brewer Buys Mcewan's And Youngers From Heineken

Bedfordshire based family brewer, Wells & Young’s have acquired leading Scottish beer brands McEwan's and Younger's from Heineken UK for an undisclosed sum. In addition, Wells & Young’s has also bought the remaining 17% of the Courage beer brands from Heineken it did not own, following a deal in January 2007.

The firm said it will continue to brew McEwan’s ales at the Caledonian brewery in Edinburgh. Whereas Younger’s and packaged McEwan's beers will be brewed at other sites based in England.

The two brands generate annual retail sales of about £80m in the UK and the acquisition now means Wells & Young’s is now the third top premium ale brewer in the UK.
