Major Aldi planned for £25m Rhyl scheme

A planning application has been made for a 18,567 sq ft Aldi store at the £25m Marina Quay development on the seafront in Rhyl, North Wales, which is owned by Scarborough International Properties Limited (SIPL).

SIPL first confirmed in November last year that the leading global discount supermarket had plans to open a store at Marina Quay and held a public consultation day in December to showcase the plans.

If approved, the development would involve Aldi relocating from its current site within the town centre to the 132,000 sq ft retail and leisure development to expand its store. Existing Aldi jobs will be retained and additional jobs will be created with the supermarket. Pending planning consent from Denbighshire County Council, construction will commence later on this year.

The deal follows the news that pre-lets have been secured with Farmfoods and Greggs. Further deals with a number of food and beverage operators are in the pipeline.

Jack Abou-Jaoude, Development Manager of SIP, said, “We are extremely excited about the prospect of opening a new Aldi store at Marina Quay. We have worked hard to deliver an accessible and larger store for local residents. The planning consent will enable us to create local employment opportunities in the local area and provide consumers with even more choice. We look forward to progressing the scheme.'
