Leon launches flagship outlet in Gran Canaria Airport

Healthy fast casual chain, Leon has just opened a flagship restaurant in Gran Canaria Airport, which will change the way air passengers experience eating on-the-go.

After years of suffering traditional fast food in airports around the world, Leon is bringing its commitment to top quality, natural ingredients and first class service to the 13 million passengers that travel through the Canary Islands’ busiest airport every year.

This marks Leon first Spanish opening and sixth international restaurant; joining Amsterdam, Utrecht and Oslo, as well as 50 locations throughout the UK.

John Vincent, Leon CEO and co-founder, said, “Airports are one of the places where people still struggle to eat well. Choices are limited, quality is often dubious, and traditional fast food still reigns.

'We want to open Leons in places where people need us most, and we’re excited to be in Gran Canaria with our biggest ever restaurant. It’s a sign that the future of fast food is changing, and Gran Canaria Airport is going to be at the forefront of the fast food revolution.”

The opening also signifies Leon's first opening as part of their partnership with Autogrill Group.

The Gran Canaria restaurant will be Leon’s largest to date at over 500sq m with over 200 covers. The Spanish team, including 10 managers, has been spending time in Leon’s London restaurants over the last three months learning how to cope in a busy hospitality environment. They were paired with Spanish-speaking team members within Leon, with the Leon training team also travelling to and from Spain to help support its newest recruits.

Leon’s vision has always been to make it easy for people to eat and live well, and to do so in every major city in the world. The news also follows announcements of Leon’s first American opening in Washington DC later this summer and the group’s Irish partnership to bring Leon to Dublin.
