Whitbread given green light at GM for Costa sale to Coca Cola


Further to the announcement of the £3.9bn agreement on 31 August, Whitbread PLC has been given approval at the company's General Meeting for the proposed sale of Costa Ltd to The Coca Cola Company.

Details of the resolution were set out in Whitbread's circular to shareholders, dated 21 September 2018.

Completion of the Transaction remains subject to the satisfaction or waiver of the conditions summarised in the Circular.

Founded in London in 1971, Costa Coffee is the second largest coffeehouse chain in the world, and the largest in the UK.

Acquired by Whitbread in 1995, it has since grown to 3,401 stores across 31 countries. The business has 2,121 UK branches, over 6,000 Costa Express vending facilities and a further 1,280 outlets overseas (including 460 in China).
