Co-op invests £600k in latest Welsh food store

The Co-op is serving-up its newest Welsh food store in Hirwaun following a £600k investment supporting 20 local jobs.

The store - which is around 3,000 sq.ft - will see the Co-op relocate from its former home in Tramway Road, Hirwaun, to a new purpose built development designed to better serve the community.

The new Co-op – opening on Thursday, 29 November - brings a funding boost for local causes through the Co-op’s Membership scheme – Members receive 5% reward when they swipe their Membership card when buying own brand products, with the Co-op donating a further 1% to local causes.

The new Co-op includes a Costa coffee dispenser and enhanced in-store bakery, alongside its range of fresh, healthy foods, hot food, food-to-go, meal ideas, award winning wines, and essentials.

There are offers and promotions in and around the new store to mark its launch. Also, students in Hirwaun holding the NUS extra (TOTUM) card receive a 10% discount off their groceries to support them during their studies.

Emma Morgan-Evans, Co-op Store Manager, said, “We are really looking forward to welcoming members and customers into their new store. We are delighted to have had the opportunity to carry out such a significant investment in Hirwaun – we have had a great response from customers, and we are confident they will be as wowed by the look of their new store as we are.
