Cadogan’s by Adam Handling launches afternoon tea

Cadogan’s by Adam Handling, the stunning tea lounge at the newly-opened Belmond Cadogan Hotel in Chelsea, has now launched its spectacular Afternoon Tea experience.

Nine months in the making, Cadogan’s exquisite Afternoon Tea offering has been developed by the hotel’s Chef Patron and award-winning restaurateur, Adam Handling, in collaboration with renowned pastry chef, Chris Underwood who joined Adam Handling Restaurant Group as Group Pastry Chef in June of last year.

The meticulously designed Afternoon Tea menu at Cadogan’s by Adam Handling showcases the very best of British ingredients and celebrates the history and importance of a traditional High Tea.

The concept is largely inspired by childhood memories of plentiful, delicious feeding at Adam’s grandmother’s house - “My Dad used to say, “kiddy on, you’re at your grandma’s,” to me and my brother and sisters, and we always knew that meant we were going to be fed dramatically,” said Handling.

Served daily from 1.30pm to 5.30pm, the outstanding Afternoon Tea offers a two-hour long experience, evoking such nostalgia and warm feelings of abundance with an elegant and refined touch.

The menu begins with a selection of traditional sandwiches with each distinctive filling - from Valley Smokehouse smoked salmon with crab salad and rocket to Clarence Court duck egg with curry mayonnaise and mustard leaf – precisely matched to five different bread types, which are selected for their complementary balance of flavours and freshly baked in house each day in the 24-hour bakery.

Alongside traditional raisin and plain scones, the Afternoon Tea features a selection of exquisitely prepared savoury and sweet delights. Enticing highlights from the savoury choices include Mushroom & truffle egg, or a Cheese & truffle gougére.

Honouring the Belmond Cadogan Hotel’s historic location on Sloane Street, the sweet dishes at Cadogan’s by Adam Handling have been inspired by the fascinating life story of its namesake, Sir Hans Sloane.

A notable scientist and collector, Sloane’s explorations across the globe have inspired Handling and his team to create intriguing and delicious combinations, setting international flavours alongside quintessential British ingredients and classic techniques. Mouth-watering examples include, Granny Smith & Lemongrass Cremeux; Passion Fruit Curd Tart with Coconut Mousse and Salted Caramel Sacher with Milk Chocolate Chantilly.

Accompanying the abundance of intricate culinary offerings will be an extensive selection of the finest luxury teas in partnership with Newby Teas – the most awarded international brand in high-end luxury tea.

At Newby, quality is the number one priority. Using just the leaves of a single estate means standards can vary from year to year. That’s why only the finest leaves from a variety of tea gardens, picked at their most prime season, are selected.

With such a commitment to excellence, Handling and Newby Teas have together carefully selected over 17 expertly balanced classic and aromatic blends to accompany the spectacular tea - including two signature Adam Handling Assam and Breakfast blends, exclusively available at the Belmond Cadogan Hotel.

Also available is an extensive choice of some of the finest Champagnes, including Adam Handling’s Own Label Sparkling, and a curated menu of single-origin coffees in collaboration with Union Coffee.
