Southern Co-op launches delivery service

A new convenience store delivery service, being offered by a regional, independent co-operative, is creating 24 new jobs for local residents in Chichester and Portsmouth.

With a trial launching on 28 September, Southern Co-op will be offering residents who live in the two cities the option of having their shopping delivered in as little as 60 minutes.

Once customers have downloaded the easy-to-use Snappy Shopper app they can order their shopping from The Co-operative Food to have it delivered to their doors.

Andrew Farndell, Head of Trading and Format at Southern Co-op, said, 'We'd started looking at ways to offer a delivery service to our shoppers at the end of last year but, when lockdown hit, we had to focus all our efforts on keeping the shelves stocked, supporting our store colleagues and putting new measures in place to protect people from COVID-19.

'We know some of our colleagues went above and beyond and delivered essentials in their local neighbourhoods but we just didn't have the capacity to roll this out everywhere. So it's both a relief and a pleasure to be launching the trial in Chichester and Portsmouth with the hope it can be rolled out wider later on this year.

'We hope that our new partnership with Snappy Shopper will be a fantastic addition to the services we already provide in our local communities.'

Customers who have downloaded the app, enter their postcode, place their order and they will be notified of when the delivery will be with them. This will usually be within 30-60 minutes, however, occasionally drivers may take longer due to circumstances out of their control.

Mark Steven, CEO of Snappy Shopper Ltd, said, 'Snappy Shopper is delighted to be partnering with Southern Co-op to provide customers with our easy to use home delivery. Customers can look forward to prompt 30 to 60 minute delivery.'

There will be more than 1,700 different products available to order including bread, milk, soft drinks, snacks, groceries, pet food, baby care, household products, magazines, newspapers and alcohol (valid ID will be required upon arrival).

The service will cost £3, plus a 4% service charge payable to Snappy Shopper and will be available from 9am to 8pm seven days a week.
