Waitrose survey reveals nation’s favourite festive foods

Enjoying the comfort of traditional Christmas food despite the unusual circumstances is the nation’s plan for Christmas 2020, according to a survey commissioned by Waitrose. The poll of 2,000 people has revealed the nation’s favourite festive foods, and the meals people are planning to celebrate Christmas 2020.

The top five festive food must-haves, in order of popularity are turkey, gravy, pigs in blankets, stuffing and sprouts, proving that despite the uncertainty surrounding festive celebrations this year, the classics will still be a huge part of Christmas.

Martyn Lee, Executive Chef at Waitrose, says: ‘We all know the nostalgic power that food has, and Christmas simply wouldn’t be Christmas without key family food traditions and rituals. It’s no surprise that the top five foods are the most classic Christmas roast ingredients and sprouts making the top five is proof that we must love them really!’

As social gatherings and parties are likely to be out of the question, a third of people are planning to scale back their Christmas dinner this year and 30% of people are planning to make Christmas Eve and Boxing Day into bigger celebrations than in previous years. For those looking for help planning their Christmas shopping list, a useful tool on Waitrose.com has everything shoppers might need to prepare festive feasts of all sizes.
