Surplus supermarket group opens Bradford site with Darlington next

Company Shop Group opened its latest membership surplus supermarket in Bradford in December, with the next new launch set for Darlington in February.

The Bradford site is the company's 11th supermarket and further increases its capacity and capability to redistribute more surplus across the UK.

Company Shop Group works with major retailers, manufacturers and brands to redistribute surplus food and household products, including Morrisons, Marks and Spencer, Nestlé, Iceland and Tesco. Products have, on average, around 53% off the normal retail price.

Membership to its stores is free and open to those working in the NHS, social care and emergency services, prison services, British armed forces, and the fast-moving consumer goods supply chain, as well as temporarily for those working within schools and the local council.

As the coronavirus pandemic continues, it has extended its membership to all those receiving welfare support. All those eligible need to do is sign up for a free membership card online.

During 2020, the Company Shop Group opened stores in Long Eaton, Leicester, Edinburgh and Bradford, welcoming tens of thousands of new members, as well as a new distribution centre in Leicester.

The firm's award-winning social enterprise, Community Shop, has also expanded with a new store in Kirkdale, Liverpool.
