Launching mid-January 2019, Mayfair restaurant and bar China Tang at The Dorchester will unveil its first ever Afternoon Tea.
Available Monday to Friday, the luxury tea will feature the restaurant’s signature Cantonese style in savoury and sweet dim sum treats, alongside refined dessert items created by the pastry team. Aptly named ‘Tea at Tangs,’ the newly introduced tea offering pays homage to late owner Sir David Tang, and is served in the bar.
In contrast to the more traditional afternoon tea offerings within the Mayfair area, such as the tea at The Promenade at The Dorchester, Tea at Tangs will offer a unique twist in keeping with the restaurant’s characterful charm.
Afternoon tea will include a selection of steamed dim sum served in a traditional bamboo basket, with daily rotating fillings, expertly prepared by Executive Chef Chong Choi Fong and the kitchen brigade. Dim sum will be served alongside butterfly prawn toast, vegetarian spring rolls and gai lan cheung fan.
Sweet items will include egg custard tarts, Mandarin delight, osmanthus jelly, fried sweet chui chow dim sum, as well as signature steamed chocolate dumplings. All to be enjoyed in China Tang’s theatrical surrounds of 1930s Shanghai glamour.
Complementing the food offering, China Tang will serve a carefully curated selection of teas from a menu devised by Jade Tea, ranging from Jasmine Supreme (a vibrant and lively green tea layered with fresh jasmine flowers) to Silver Needle (the champagne of white tea, with notes of sweet sap and honeydew melon ) and Rare Orchid (oolong tea with notes of fig and elderflower).
From the bar, guests can also enjoy an optional glass of Heidsieck or select from three Tea-based Cocktails - Tang Teapot (Rum, Chrysanthemum Tea, Yellow Chartreuse, Lychee & Rose Bitter), French Tea (Pothecary Gin, Champagne Syrup and Lavender Tea) or Cosmopot (Grey Goose Orange Vodka, Cointreau, Cranberry Juice, Pomegranate Syrup and Bergamot Tea).
