Alan Yau set to launch three eateries in 2020

Wagamama chain founder, Alan Yau has created another restaurant concept, which is due to launch next year in London's Docklands, according to the Evening Standard.

The restaurateur, the brains behind fine dining restaurants Hakkasan and Yauatcha, has not been involved in the London restaurant scene for some time. He more recently pulled out of Chinese restaurants Park Chinois and Duck + Rice, as well as Middle Eastern restaurant concept, Babaji Pide.

But now Yau is set to launch three eateries in 2020, two of which will be in Canary Wharf, and the third will be at the Westfield London shopping centre, Shepherd’s Bush.

Yau has described Chyna as the Chinese River Cafe and the 120-cover seafood restaurant, Chyna will launch at Wardian London - a high-rise scheme of 766 apartments (CGI of one pictured), which is due to welcome its first residents early next year. It will also feature a large terrace overlooking Canary Wharf’s South Dock.

Chyna's seasonally-led menu will focus on Cantonese cooking using British seafood, with European-style ingredients, including Iberico ham and Spanish sea cucumbers.

Diners will be able to choose live seafood and fish from the restaurant's own water market, which will be made up of a group of tanks.

Yau's second opening will be at Wardian London named Yau Grilling, a smaller, 45-cover Japanese-inspired counter eatery.

Finally, Yau is planning a permanent site for his Turkish pizza pop-up, Yamabahçe, which has been in Marylebone. This will open in Westfield London early next year.
