Cumbrian Holiday Inn Express opens doors

The highly-anticipated Holiday Inn Express Barrow in Furness has officially opened its doors to guests – and marked the occasion paying homage to the building’s history.

In recognition of the site’s former incarnation as a police station, members of the local emergency services, including police officers and firefighters joined General Manager Mark Winter to cut the ribbon and officially declare the hotel open – two weeks ahead of the originally planned opening day.

After doing the honours, the hotel’s guests enjoyed some refreshments on the house, kicking off the hotel’s first community initiative which involves offering free tea and coffee to all members of the emergency services in the area.

The 127-bedroom hotel and restaurant, which recently unveiled its team of 25 hospitality superstars, has already been hailed as having the potential to encourage further development on Market Street and Duke Street by the Furness Economic Development Forum.

Within the heart of Barrow in Furness, and just 30 minutes from the Lake District, the property offers the perfect destination for business and leisure visitors to the city.

All 127 bedrooms within the hotel have been designed in line with Holiday Inn Express’ Next Generation hotel model, which focuses on providing all the facilities today’s smart traveller requires.

Mark Winter, General Manager of Holiday Inn Express Barrow in Furness, said, “I’m absolutely thrilled to throw open our doors to locals and guests, two weeks ahead of schedule. And it’s a real honour to be joined by a team of people who can only be described as ‘local heroes’ to cut the ribbon and celebrate our opening day.

“We’ve already had an incredible journey in building up the new hotel to today’s opening, and now we start a whole new journey where our focus is on offering outstanding service to all of our guests – whether they’re joining us for a business trip, a leisurely break, a meal or simply a quick coffee. The team is very much looking forward to the future.”

Holiday Inn Express Barrow in Furness is operated by RBH, the UK’s leading independent hotel management company, and was developed by Ashall Projects Ltd.
