18th century Northumberland inn for sale

Grade II-listed The Red Lion Inn at Milfield, Northumberland, has been brought to market through Fleurets, with a freehold price tag of £420k.

This 18th century property is being offered for sale by owners Iain and Claire Burn, who after over 30 years in the licensed trade are wishing to sell the Red Lion to move to pastures new.

The Red Lion is an established country village inn which fronts the A697, a scenic route between Morpeth and Coldstream, close to the Northumberland National Park boundary and the nearby market town of Wooler.

The property has a good range of bar and dining areas, together with a total of 6 en-suite letting bedrooms. For owners there is a good family size flat, comprising: lounge, open-plan kitchen diner and utility room, together with three bedrooms and a house bathroom.

Trading accounts for year-end 30 April 2019 show strong profits on sales £396,286 net of VAT.

Nick Thomas of Fleurets said, “The Red Lion Inn is an established and profitable business with a broad base of trade. During their ownership, the Burns’ have developed the Red Lion into a successful all- round country inn, which involved the building of a detached block of four letting bedrooms coming on stream in 2015.'

Looking to the future, recently granted planning permission for a new residential development in the village should further help to attract additional local trade.
