New GM for luxury Down Hall in Herts

Luxury Hertfordshire country house hotel Down Hall has appointed Ken Flockhart as General Manager.

With over 30 years of experience in the hospitality sector, Flockhart brings a strong record in profit improvement, employee development and customer service at luxury hotels and resorts around the world.

Due to the current crisis, Flockhart’s first task will be to re-open the hotel with a number of events for the local community and key workers. He will be responsible for leading the Down Hall team whilst driving business development, procurement, recruitment and training, all the while working to ensure a superlative level of service across the board.

In his former position as General Manager at Warner Cricket St. Thomas Hotel, one of the largest country house hotels in the UK, Flockhart was responsible for the historic house’s 239 rooms, two restaurants and bars, a 500-seat entertainment venue, leisure club and 160 acres of hotel grounds, all set within the 1,000 acre Somerset estate.

With extensive international experience, previous roles have taken Flockhart to the Bahamas, Antigua, Grenada, Qatar and Spain – where he worked as Resort Director at La Cala, one of the most expansive golf, hotel and real estate communities in Europe as well as The Maldives – where he was General Manager at Kuredu Island Resort & Spa, overseeing 770 staff.

Flockhart commented, ‘It’s an absolute pleasure to join one of the UK’s leading luxury country house hotels. I’m looking forward to the hotel reopening and supporting the ambitious plans afoot at Down Hall as we grow our weddings, conferencing and events offering, and to working alongside such a committed and talented team.’
