Townsend to launch first chef collaboration series

This October, Townsend restaurant at London's Whitechapel Gallery will launch its very first collaboration.

Inviting in influential, like-minded chefs hailing from across London and the UK, these Friday evening dinner events will continue the restaurant’s focus on creatively constructed dishes, made using the best British seasonal produce.

The series will welcome chefs for an exclusive one-off menu collaboration. At each event these chefs, all of whom are close friends of founder Nick Gilkinson and head chef Joe Fox, will be invited to devise a menu inspired by their diverse range of culinary backgrounds. In addition, for each meal in the series founder Nick Gilkinson will create a pairing of wines, beers and cider - devised to match the menu from the collaborative chefs.

Kicking off on Friday 9 October the first event will showcase the talents of Manteca’s Chris Leach & Gabriel Pryce of Rita’s for a dinner which will explore the boundaries of Modern American cuisine.

The next dinner on October 23 will see chef Joe Fox joined in the kitchen by Damian Clisby. Damian has honed his craft working with chefs such as Tim Hughes and Adam Byatt before taking the position of Chef Director at Petersham Nurseries – where he first worked alongside Joe. Damian will draw upon his wealth of experience and passion for seasonal and sustainable ingredients - designing a menu focused around seasonal game.

The series continues on Friday 9 November with chef Katja Tausig (pictured), who spent five years working as head chef of Koya Soho taking to the stoves. To finish, on Friday 23 November, Emily Dobbs will join Joe to create a menu which draws upon many years spent working with Sri Lankan dishes and ingredients as part of her Weligama project.

Townsend first opened at the start of this year but was forced to close after just a few weeks, moving their activities entirely online via their Town Send home delivery. The restaurant reopened on 14 July and is currently open Tuesday through Sunday. Town Send meal kits and provisions are available for delivery to doorsteps both in London and nationwide.
