Crate Brewery & Silo to launch London sustainability driven market

This month, Crate Brewery in collaboration with Silo, will launch The White Building Market, a new sustainability driven produce and retail market, located in The White Building – a bastion of Hackney Wick and home to Crate Brewery.

Open from Thursday to Sunday, the market will showcase artisanal producers and pioneers selected for their approaches to sustainability within their sectors.

The Market will sell produce such as freshly-milled flour and smoked rapeseed oil from Duchess Farms, alongside beers from Crate Brewery and natural wines from Sussex-based winery Tillingham – initially by bottle and with an aim to introduce an on-tap and re-fillable offering.

The Market will also act as a platform for the independent businesses and innovative designers with which Crate and Silo have built close relationships.

The producer of Silo’s ceramics, Potters Thumb, will debut their 'Glass Porcelain' plates made from crushed wine bottles that have been consumed at Silo and CRATE. Recycled plastic plates and coasters from Weez and Merl will be among an array of homewares and lifestyle products the Market will be showcasing.

Following a similar theme, industrial designers Smile Plastics will offer a range of hand-crafted chopping boards from waste materials. British goat leather specialists Billy Tannery will feature their buttery-soft goat leather aprons, handbags and wallets, all made from a by-product that would otherwise be sent to landfill.

With a focus on low waste and sustainability, refillable household goods from Fill Refill will be available in reusable glass bottles such as Fig Leaf hand soap and washing up liquid.

As well as supporting existing relationships, CRATE will be on the lookout to expand the carousel of offerings, and they will be inviting new and likeminded suppliers to showcase their products, too.

Jess Seaton, Director of Crate, said, “We’re so pleased to be building on our vision for The White Building and give a platform for these producers and to showcase such unique, sustainable and beautiful products.”

Doug McMaster, Chef Patron of Silo, added, “It’s been an extraordinary year, and as a restaurant we cannot thank our suppliers enough for the support. We’re looking forward to growing and developing this aspect and feel this is an excellent opportunity to introduce these great businesses directly to our friends and customers.”
