In the Queen’s Speech today the Government announced it would be pressing ahead with a ban to limit how takeaways and restaurants can advertise on social media. No exemptions have been announced.

This could have a severe impact on jobs. Please see a reactive statement below from the British Takeaway Campaign

Andrew Crook, Vice Chair of the British Takeaway Campaign, said, “Just as thousands of small, independent restaurants and takeaways have started to feel optimistic about the future, the Government decides to slap us down with careless red tape. This ban will only hurt the little guy.

'The big chains have the money and power to do what they want, but the lone takeaway down the road doesn’t have the budget to spend on flashy campaigns – they need social media to survive.'

Crook concluded, 'Small restaurants must be given an exemption from this ban, or they will be at risk, as will thousands of jobs.”
