Hotel Chocolat names former Mars executive as UK general manager

Carrie Martin, a former Mars executive, will join Hotel Chocolat as UK general manager from 6 October.

Currently, Martin oversees Europe, the Middle East, and Australia as general manager for Kind, a brand within Mars’ portfolio.

She is set to report directly to Angus Thirlwell, Hotel Chocolat’s President and Chief Innovation Officer.

In a LinkedIn post, she said: “As a long-time admirer of Hotel Chocolat, it’s a privilege to now lead a brand in the UK that so many, including myself, feel passionate about.

“Its blend of ethical values, bold creativity and uncompromising quality sets it apart. I’m looking forward to meeting and working with the team to shape the future while staying true to what makes Hotel Chocolat so loved.”

Martin brings extensive experience in the confectionery industry, having held various roles at Mars since 2000.

This announcement comes shortly after CEO Lysa Hardy stepped down, having led the company since September 2024.

The executive said on a LinkedIn post: “After seven fabulous years, it’s time for a new chapter. Today I step away from my role at Hotel Chocolat with enormous pride and gratitude.

“From CMO to CEO, I’ve had the privilege of working with an exceptional team to turn ideas into action, Velvetising the world by creating a premium drinking chocolate category, navigating the pandemic, elevating retail experience, piloting new formats, and welcoming more customers than ever to the brand.”
