Byron MD becomes new CEO

Byron Hamburgers has just announced that current managing director Simon Cope has become the new chief executive.

It ends Byron’s search for a new chief after Andy Manders stepped down in May due to “personal reasons”, according to the company, just a few months into his role.

Cope joined Byron in July from Wagamama, where he worked as the Asian fusion chain’s global marketing director for four years. Wagamama and Byron are backed by private equity firm, Hutton Collins.

Cope also served as a marketing director for All Bar One and Harvester owner Mitchells & Butlers from 2011 to 2013.

The appointment is set to relieve executive chairman Dalton Philips of his duties so that he can step back into his role of non-executive chairman.

Philips said, “Simon had an immediate impact on our business when he joined as MD in July. He understands the dynamics of this hugely competitive and exciting marketplace. He is passionate about food, gets our customers, is a fantastic team leader and has a serious track record of delivery.

“There isn’t much he hasn’t seen, and it is clear to me that he is going to be a terrific CEO for Byron.

“We have strengthened Byron’s senior management significantly over the past six months and the new team is already making great strides in reinvigorating Byron’s pioneering spirit and distinctive character. I look forward to further progress under Simon’s leadership.”
