Harrison Leisure snaps up £16m Northumberland resort

Award-winning Percy Wood Golf & Country Park in Morpeth, Northumberland has been sold by Shorewood Leisure Group, through Colliers International, to Harrison Leisure UK, for a deal worth in excess of £16m.

Percy Wood is one of the North East’s premier holiday destinations. The site has around 500 holiday home pitches, includes a highly regarded 18-hole golf course and has planning consent for further development in the future.

The resort, which is set amongst almost 180 acres of beautiful natural woodland, also features a restaurant and bar, as well as a takeaway food service

Situated in the picturesque village of Swarland in Morpeth, with views across the Simonside hills, the resort is home to some of Northumberland’s most elusive wildlife including the red squirrel, pheasants and roe deer and has previously been presented with the prestigious David Bellamy Gold Conservation award.

Billy Harrison, Director of Harrison Leisure UK, said, “We are delighted to secure this acquisition which will provide a crucial element in our growth plans going forwards. This extends our portfolio of holiday parks to five and counting which in tandem with our rapidly expanding caravan sales dealership makes for an exciting future for the company.”

Head of UK Parks Agency for Colliers International, Richard Moss, said, “The demand for quality parks of this size and trading capability remains very high. The deal was brokered in a discreet fashion between two experienced and respected park operators and it was no surprise that Percy Wood Golf & Country Park fitted the ambitious growth plans of Harrison Leisure UK.”

Neil Wilson, Director of Shorewood Leisure, said, “The timing was right for Shorewood Leisure and allows us to further concentrate on growing the business in and around Yorkshire. We know that the park is in good hands with Harrison Leisure and we wish them every success for the future at this excellent holiday park.”

David Allison, founder of Shorewood Leisure, added, “This sale enhances our ability to now further expand our parks portfolio throughout Yorkshire. Funds are readily available to acquire new parks in addition to continuing to improve the offering across the group.”
