Cafe De Pierre replaces Patisserie Valerie cafes in Debenhams

The Lux Group's Cafe De Pierre has agreed a deal with Debenhams to take over in-store cafes previously run by Patisserie Valerie.

Lux Group, which also owns the subsidiaries Caffe Concerto and The Grand Caffe, will roll out the French-inspired brasserie concept across multiple locations. The brand offers a large selection of sweet treats such as cakes, tarts and macarons, with hot beverages and champagne.

Cafe De Pierre has now taken over former Patisserie Valerie sites in the following Debenhams stores: London’s Oxford Street, Westfield London, Wandsworth, Stevenage, Chelmsford, Telford, Wandsworth and Liverpool.

It is also planning to open in Glasgow, Edinburgh, Manchester, Dublin, and Cardiff.

Lux Group has also employed more than 150 former Patisserie Valerie staff, who were made redundant as a result of closures, and are looking to recruit a further 200 staff in the coming months as more stores open nationwide.

Director Mohammad Borjak said, “This is a very exciting time for The Lux Group, we have grown year on year and we’re happy that Cafe De Pierre will provide a pleasant and enjoyable oasis for not only shoppers at Debenhams, but also lovers of quality French food and patisserie.”

At the start of the year, Patisserie Valerie fell into administration and closed 71 of its 200 cafes. Dublin-based private equity fund, Causeway Capital bought what was left of the business.
