Carluccio’s vegan croissants wins PETA Best Vegan Pastry

Carluccio’s has scooped the award for the Best Vegan Pastry by PETA's Vegan Food Awards for its new vegan croissants.

Two vegan sourdough croissants were rolled out across Carluccio’s nationwide this August – the Croissant Vegano, made from a traditional Italian fresh sourdough recipe with a sprinkling of cane sugar and the Saccottini al Cioccolato, the Italian relative of the pain au chocolat filled with hazelnut dark cocoa cream with a sprinkling of edible gold sugar on top.

The range is part of Carluccio’s core offering, and account for 22.5% of comparable croissant sales since they launched.

Hilary Ansell, Marketing Director for Carluccio’s commented, “We are absolutely delighted to have won this prestigious award for our new croissants. We are committed to providing our customers with a strong selection of delicious plant-based foods and our new croissants are a welcome addition to the range.

'Light, flaky and airy, these croissants are a real game changer both for vegans and those choosing to eat less dairy.”

Now in its seventh year, PETA’s Vegan Food Awards highlights some of the most exciting and innovative plant-based products across the UK’s restaurants, cafés, pubs and supermarkets. Winners are selected by PETA’s corporate outreach staff, who monitor the launch of new vegan products and menu additions, judging on taste, availability, and innovation.

The new plant-based croissants from Carluccio’s are additions to a menu that already features a strong selection of vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free dishes to cater for varied dietary requirements.
