Just Eat UK delivers one million discounted meals for NHS staff

Just Eat has announced that it will extend its new 25% discount for NHS workers after an unprecedented response. In the first two weeks alone NHS staff have ordered over one million meals and saved a staggering £1.5m collectively.

The initiative was introduced as Just Eat’s way of saying thank you and to show appreciation for the extraordinary work of the c1.3 million NHS employees across the country.

The discount was initially due to end today, however it has been extended for a further two weeks until 26 April, as a result of the overwhelming take-up and as part of Just Eat’s commitment to support those working round the clock to keep us safe.

To date, hundreds of thousands of NHS and Northern Ireland’s HSC staff - both on the front line and those playing a supporting role in the fight against coronavirus - have used the discount to order meals to their place of work or for their families. Meals have ranged from large group orders enough to feed a whole team of healthcare workers, to individual dishes at the end of a long shift.

As Just Eat works with over 35,000 Restaurant Partners and delivers to 95% of UK postcodes, it has pledged to utilise its position as the UK’s leading food delivery business to find ways to continue to support its restaurant partners, couriers within its network and wider community.

In addition to extending the discount, the food delivery app will be introducing a longer term initiative to support more people on the frontline who are putting themselves at risk, in order to help others.

Andrew Kenny, UK Managing Director, said, “We are proud to be making a small difference to the individuals and families of those working for our fantastic NHS.

'Over the last few weeks we’ve heard from many of our customers and hardworking restaurant partners, who want to join in the efforts of supporting those doing an heroic job right now. We’re working on an initiative that will enable them to do just that.

'With the huge strain on our front line workers set to continue for the foreseeable future, we want to show our support to the people doing an extraordinary job of keeping this country going.”
