Bateaux London sets sail with summer menus

Smoked salmon and cucumber, strawberries and Pimm’s jelly are just some of the treats on offer to diners at London’s most prestigious floating restaurant this summer.

Chefs at Bateaux London, whose vessels, Harmony and Symphony take visitors on fine dining cruises along the Thames – past some of the capital’s most famous sights - have unveiled new menus reflecting the very best of British cuisine.

The four-course dinner menu begins with a summer pea velouté, followed by a choice of starters including free range chicken and Pimm’s jelly pressé, Scottish smoked salmon with yuzu pearls, asparagus and caviar and marinated heritage tomato salad.

Main courses of Cornish hake, South Downs’ lamb or crisp basil gnocchi are followed by desserts including dark chocolate and Kentish raspberry delice, poached summer berries and artisan English cheese.

Lunchtime diners will be served roasted feta and pickled summer vegetable salad, roast Suffolk chicken or burrata and summer pea stuffed courgette flower, followed by strawberry cheesecake.

While those planning to spend Sunday on the river will enjoy a lunch of pickled heritage beetroot, followed by a roast highland beef starter or traditional nut roast and a dessert of rhubarb and vanilla cream.

And, because afternoon tea is the ultimate great British culinary tradition, chefs are literally pushing the boat out – with a menu featuring smoked salmon and cucumber, egg and cress and coronation chicken sandwiches, a variety of cakes and scones, with strawberry preserve and Cornish clotted cream.

Gareth Brown, marketing manager for Bateaux London, said: “This summer we are celebrating the best of British produce with some classic, traditional dishes.

“And where better to enjoy them than on the Thames, with a backdrop of world famous buildings such as Tower Bridge and the Palace of Westminster?”

Bateaux London’s river cruises rank steadily in the top 100 of 1,269 ‘things to do’ in London by online travel site TripAdvisor and depart daily from Embankment Pier, Victoria Embankment, London.
