Thwaites-owned Lancashire pub awarded AA 4-star rating

A huge transformation of Thwaites-owned The Royal at Heysham, Morecambe has thrilled AA inspectors.

Following a major upgrade the historic pub, which now includes 11 en-suite rooms, has been given an AA 4-star inn rating.

A £2m refurbishment of The Royal at Heysham also included a radically improved dining and bar area, along with a new beer garden (pictured) incorporating an outdoor bar and wood-fired pizza oven.

The pub has retained its period features, some dating back to the early 18th century.

An AA 4-star inn rating is presented to establishments offering attentive service, very good beds and high quality furniture. The award also praises the dining experience.

General Manager of The Royal at Heysham, Paul Turner, said, 'We are delighted with the award from the AA. We carried out an extensive refurbishment and we have been overwhelmed with the response to the new look.

'Everyone has been glowing with praise - but this AA award is the icing on the cake as it not only confirms the quality of The Royal but the inspection is carried out by industry experts.'

Stephen Wilkinson, Senior Hotel and Restaurant Inspector for the AA, said, 'It's great to see the work that has taken place at the Royal in Heysham to the original inn and also the impressive bedrooms that have been added. They provide great comfort and provision for guest.'
