Ethical restaurant opens in N1 with alcohol alternatives

The Great Chase restaurant has opened in London's Angel headed up by former Dean Street Townhouse chef, Radek Nitkowsk.

The new eatery serves up multicultural flavours and ethical, local produce, but it comes without alcohol on the drinks menu. Instead there is a selection of alcohol-free 'Cordials & Concoctions', like the Bee’s Knees - sparkling alcohol-free rosé infused with pink grape and green tea, and Pineapple Boy with homemade pineapple and bayleaf cordial, coconut water, orange, and luxury non-alcoholic mixer, Seedlip Spice.

Another beverage getting special attention is tea, which comes with a detailed selection, under the title of Rare Teas. Cornish Peppermint is billed as having a ;brighter, cleaner flavour than fresh mint, and Chinese Emerald Green, which is 'soft hay with notes of apricots'.

For food, Nitkowski is bringing his modern take on traditional restaurant fare, so the burger will come with beef brisket and smoked cheddar, or a chicken breast with croquettes and spicy aioli. The classic pairing of asparagus and hollandaise is given an update with the introduction of lime, keta roe and purple mint, while the cauliflower side is roasted, and served up with chilli relish.

Weekend brunch dishes include: Hot smoked salmon, Keta Roe and poached egg, topping a pile of lightly curried rice, Tiger prawn shakshuka, baked eggs, sumac, coriander, buckwheat or mushrooms with sweet potato gnocchi, Pecorino and hazelnuts.
