New £21m Regional Performance Centre for Sport set for Dundee

Dundee City Council has approved plans for the long-awaited and controversial £21m sports centre at Caird Park, despite objectors who had highlighted concerns over protected species in the area.

The new Regional Performance Centre for Sport, which will cover 17.5 hectares of the park, will feature facilities for badminton, basketball, netball, rugby and volleyball.

A new layout was included in an amended planning application after Dundee FC withdrew its interest in using it as a training facility last December.

As Dundee is investing around £1bn around its waterfront and station regeneration, the new sports centre will be another feather in the city's cap.
