North Yorks holiday park set for new accommodation & leisure centre with cafe

Coppergreen Developments has won approval to expand its Woodland Lodges holiday park in Thirsk, North Yorkshire, with 70 cottages and new leisure facilities, with the creation of about 90 jobs.

A leisure centre has been given the go-ahead, which will include a swimming pool, gym, soft play area, shop and cafe.

The lodges have a predicted 85% occupancy rate, which would mean there would be around 930 extra visitors per week, or 48,500 a year.

The park currently offers The Watermill Bar & Restaurant, which has a lunch and dinner menu, plus a Sunday carvery.

The owner and operator of the park secured a £25m funding package from BGF (Business Growth Fund) and HSBC last November, which will be used for the expansion.

The funding has already been used to support the acquisition of Piperdam Golf and Leisure Resort, located near to Dundee, Scotland, as well as 350 acres of adjoining land, Blacklaw Estate.

It will also support the addition of 28 lodges at Piperdam, while the Blacklaw Estate land will be developed for outdoor pursuits including mountain bike trails and quad biking.

Piperdam boasts self-catered family accommodation, an onsite restaurant, leisure spa facilities and two golf courses and was awarded last week the Hoseasons National Relax and Explore 2016 Diamond Award for Best Lodge Park.
