Halifax museum to move for major £11m expansion

The National Children's Museum in Halifax, Eureka! is looking to expand by 39,000 sq ft and open a new £11m attraction in the Wirral by 2021, with the creation of about 28 jobs.

The proposal will see the museum move into the 3,600 sq metre Great Northern Heritage Shed next door.

The project is set to be carried out over the next six years, with plans to open the new museum as early as 2021.

The announcement marks Eureka!’s 25th anniversary. The museum, titled after Greek mathematician Archimedes’ famous exclamation, has welcomed 7.5m people through its doors since its opening in 1992.

The current museum (pictured) offers an on-site cafe, which offers a selection of delicious, freshly prepared meals and snacks.
