Gaucho to launch first £1.5m Scottish site mid-November

Argentinian steak restaurant chain, Gaucho will open its first Scottish eatery in Edinburgh mid-November in Edinburgh’s growing 'cuisine quarter' in St Andrew Square.

The £1.5m new 120-cover luxury restaurant will see the creation of 50 new jobs and Chef Director, Jamie Robertson, return to his Scottish roots.

Robertson has formerly worked alongside Jamie Oliver, before joining Gaucho in 2012 to oversee menu development and the supply chain.

The new Edinburgh outlet will serve up free-to-roam, grass-fed Aberdeen Angus steaks, along with specially created dishes, such as haggis empanadas, made using locally sourced Scottish produce.

Originally from Scotland, Aberdeen Angus was first introduced to Argentina in 1879 by Don Carlos Guerrero. Today, all Argentina's Aberdeen Angus are direct descendants of Guerrero's original Scottish cattle - Cinderella, Aunt Lee and Virtuoso, the bull.

The wine list will have over 200 Argentinian wines, some of which are produced at the restaurant’s vineyard in Mendoza, as well as an extensive range of Scottish whiskies and gins.

Gaucho launched in London in 1994, and now operates 12 restaurants in London, one in Birmingham, Leeds and Manchester, as well as 22 CAU-branded UK eateries. It also has sites in Dubai, Hong Kong and Argentina.
