Canterbury guest house comes under new ownership

Canterbury city centre guest house, Greyfriars Lodge has been sold via Christie & Co to experienced operator, Sarath Wickramakalutota.

Based in an ideal location only a stone’s throw from the High Street in Canterbury, this established nine bedroom, Grade II-listed guest house was originally built by Franciscan monks and was the eastern gate house to their monastery.

Andrew Moore, Director at Christie & Co’s Maidstone office handled the sale, commented, “We are delighted to have facilitated the leasehold sale of Greyfriars Lodge to Sarath; the second such business he has bought through us.

'We have no doubt that with his knowledge and experience of the hospitality industry he will take the business from strength to strength. We wish him well for the future.

“Due to the location of the business we saw significant interest which is indicative of the current trend we are seeing throughout the market here in the South East, particularly in the historic city of Canterbury.'
