£3.75m Carlisle hotel changes hands

The Crown Hotel, a 4 star hotel in the picturesque countryside of Cumbria in Wetheral, Carlisle, has sold through Christie & Co, which came with a £3.75m price tag.

The hotel is nestled in the beautiful surroundings of the Lake District and attracts tourists throughout the year, it is also a popular wedding venue. The three-storey building boasts 51 high standard en-suite bedrooms in keeping with the traditional style and nature of the hotel.

The hotel includes a reception area, bar and restaurant of award winning standard. The property also includes a modern extension to the rear with event and conference space, two gyms, a pool and spa.

The Crown Hotel has been acquired by Variegate Properties Limited. Previous owner David Byers decided to retire from the hospitality business following 17 years of ownership. The new owners plan to further invest in the property, continuing to play a meaningful role within the local community and build on the excellent reputation built by My Byers and his management team. Paul Hicks will stay on as the hotel’s General Manager.

Ryan Lynn, Associate Director at Christie & Co, commented, “The hotels market in the North is strong and we are seeing high levels of interest ranging from local operators to international investors. The sale of The Crown Hotel demonstrates the strong appetite for high end hotel properties in the region.

'We congratulate Mr Byers on his future retirement as we continue to work with him on the sale of his other hotel, Beaufort Park in North Wales. We also look forward to seeing how Variegate Properties Limited takes the business forward.”
