Snowdon visitor centre sees record annual sales of sausage rolls & hot drinks


Snowdon Mountain Railway is celebrating a year of record breaking figures.

The summit visitor centre cafe has seen the sale of sausage rolls increase by 17% to 19,666 in 2017 and hot drinks sales rose by 22%.

The summit visitor centre cafe also sells a selection of cold drinks and a range of snacks including warming Welsh oggies and fresh cream cakes.

Additionally, there have been a record number of film crews visiting to capture stunning views of the iconic North Wales destination.

Teams from 11 production companies have visited over the course of the 2017 season to make programmes featuring the railway, its trains, the summit building and station in Llanberis.

Earlier in the year, a poll from Samsung asked 2,500 people to choose the UK’s best view and the view from the top of Snowdon won the title.

With the exception of two World Wars, Snowdon Mountain Railway has run uninterrupted since 1896. It offers both a heritage steam service and traditional diesel locomotives, visitors

Snowdon’s summit, 3,560ft above sea level, offers views out across the mystical Llyn Llydaw which is one of the legendary locations reputedly linked to King Arthur, his sword Excalibur, and the Lady of the Lake.

The railway, which welcomes over 130,000 visitors a year, is part of Heritage Great Britain plc, a group which owns and manages tourist destinations like Land’s End, John O’Groats and The Needles on The Isle of Wight.
