NE brewery looks to expand pub portfolio

Based in Newcastle upon Tyne, Hadrian Border Brewery has up until recently been know for its award-winning beers, but is looking to grow its pub estate.

The company, run by Andy and Shona Burrows, invested more than £350k last year into a major transformation of the former Station Hotel in Gateshead.

The revamped venue, which had been empty for two years, is trading well as the Station East pub after its first 12 months, giving the Burrows the confidence to find other sites in order to start a chain of independent pubs in the North East.

The pair took on the brewery six years ago, starting as a small operation in producing just two barrels a week. The company now employs 16 people and has the capacity to produce 30,000 litres a week.
