Ei Publican Partnerships names Cellar Keeper of the Year

Publican Peter Clements was last night named Ei Publican Partnerships’ Cellar Keeper of the Year at the annual awards ceremony, held at The Yorkshire Grey pub, Holborn.

The awards, which are judged by a panel of experts, is open to Ei Publican Partnerships’ managers and bar staff across its Greater London division. The award recognises the people responsible for the pub’s best kept and quality beer cellars.

Clements (pictured right), who runs The British Oak, Blackheath, said, “I’m thrilled to have been awarded this prestigious award, which is down to the hard work and continued support of my team who have stepped up and worked really hard to ensure our cellar is of the highest standard.

“The cellar is the engine room and the most important part of the pub, and should be treated with maximum care and attention. The beer leaves the brewery in tip-top condition, and I aim to deliver the pint to the customer in the same condition.

“These awards are brilliant and a credit to Ei Publican Partnerships. I am very grateful for their continued support and encouragement, it’s great to get everyone in the same room to talk business and just have a bit of fun.”

As part of his prize, Clements will enjoy an all-expenses-paid weekend break to Dublin courtesy of one of the competition’s sponsors, Diageo.

Ei Publican Partnerships’ Managing Director for the London & South East, Kim Francis (pictured left), presented the awards, which were attended by all the regional winners.

The process saw every pub within Greater London judged through a rigorous audit and assessment process. The first round produced 10 regional winners, they were then further judged by Daniel Ramacraft, Quality Executive at Diageo.

Ei Publican Partnerships’ Senior Regional Manager Michael Ekberg, said, “Publicans generate a high amount of profit from their cellar therefore the importance of good cellar management is paramount and should never be underestimated or overlooked.”

The runners-up were Alon Atzmon, who runs The Landor Hotel, in Stockwell and Kiara Maher, who runs The George, in Eton.
