US sandwich chain to launch in UK this month

US build-your-own sandwich chain, Which Wich is launching in the UK on 28 February at a 750 sq ft London site.

Opening the first outlet in WC2's Central St Giles, this brand, which launched in 2003, has around 500 sites in America, so there are sure to be roll-out plans for the UK.

Customers will mark their ingredients on a sandwich bag, that's sent across a zip wire for the staff behind the counter to make the sandwich, which can be baked in the oven too.

Tailored to local tastes and produce, this first London site will be offering Beef & Mushroom Melt from the Premium selection, with top-side roast beef sliced daily, in-house sautéed mushrooms & melted provolone on a hot toasted baguette. Beyond bread, they can wrap fillings in lettuce, a spinach tortilla, prepare it as a salad, and do something that's called 'skinnying' bread.

The US menu is sure to be transferred here too, so customers can expect to choose from Philly Cheesesteak, Ultimate BLT, Reuben, and the brand's signature 'Wicked' sandwich with turkey, ham, roast beef, pepperoni, and bacon, plus a choice of three cheeses and any additional toppings.

For sides, Which Wich serves up normal fries, sweet potato fries, and coleslaw, and for sweet treats there will be freshly baked muffins and cookies. Beverages will be soft fizzy drinks and a selection of hot drinks.

There will also be a range of breakfast options, such as toasted English muffins, and a variety of egg breakfast pots.
