Operator brothers with Star Pubs & Bars start £280k revamp of W Yorks pub

Work starts this week on a £280k refurbishment of The New Inn in Farsley, West Yorkshire by Star Pubs & Bars and brothers Jamie and Matt Hanson, the site’s new operators.

The project marks the start of the Hansons’ ambition to create a small pub group in West and North Yorkshire. Jamie Hanson already operates The Thornhill in Calverley - a top performing village pub serving outstanding food – with Star, and the pair are set to take a third Star site, The Princess in Rawdon, next week.

The Hansons are completely revamping The New Inn, transforming the tired local into a quality city-centre style contemporary pub and renaming it number thirty three to reflect its new direction. 15 new jobs will be created.

The pub’s outside will be fully renovated and redecorated. A garden will be created, complete with a garden room, murals and heating and lighting. Inside, the pub will be stripped out and completely refurbished to give it a stylish contemporary look.

Matt, a chef, is introducing a menu featuring artisan cheese, charcuterie from Lishman’s of Ilkley, and gourmet toasties. A barista-quality coffee machine is being installed, and locally made pastries will also be served.

The Hansons want to put number thirty three on the map for the quality of its beer and SmartDispense is being installed. Craft beers and lagers as well as cask ales will be brought in, with the brothers looking to gain Cask Marque accreditation and stock local ales. Wines, gins and cocktails will also be specialities.

“The designs are stunning and will completely change the pub and bring something new to Farsley. At the moment, many people choose to go into Leeds for a night out, we want to provide them with an alternative on their doorsteps,” said Jamie.

“Our aim is take more leased pubs in the area where there is the opportunity to transform the business and add value. We’ve had excellent backing from Star from brand and technical support to investment and insight so they’re our first choice to partner with as we grow.”

Grant Morgan-Tolworthy, Star Pubs & Bars Regional Operations Director, said, “The Hansons are a highly experienced team. Jamie’s extensive knowledge of pubs and Matt’s credentials as a chef bring a great combination of skills to any pub business. We look forward to developing further partnerships with them.”
