Cains to start brewing again under new ownership

Founded in 1858, Cains Brewery will once again start brewing, having last produced beer back in June 2013, as Mikhail Hotel and Leisure Group (MHALG) has acquired the name, with 200 jobs created.

The new owner will install a new brewery within the original Cains' site in Liverpool, now called Cains Brewery Village, a Grade II-listed complex, which will continue to be home to bars and a market.

The revived brewery is part of a £7m redevelopment at the site, which includes an artisan food and drink market, a state-of-the-art sky bar, and a hotel.

Andrew Mikhail, chairman of MHALG, said, “Cains Brewery Village is undergoing a huge resurgence and we are really excited to be part of this. It’s a really busy, vibrant part of the city and we are looking forward to playing a part in the future of the village.

“Over the past couple of years, people have come to know what to expect from the venues that we own; great customer service and high quality products, from a pint to a hotel stay. The Brewery Tap will fit into that and will offer a great night out in the heart of Liverpool.

“This pub is steeped in history and has something unique to offer and we look forward to meeting customers old and new.”

MHALG has also acquired the city’s Doctor Duncan’s pub, adding its portfolio of St Helens’ Eccleston Arms and the Bold Hotel in Southport. It is also opening Lord Street Hotel with a wine and Champagne bar this month.
