Ei & multi-operators invest £370k in Devon pub

Ei Publican Partnerships together with experienced multi-operators, Peter and Christine Milton, have revitalised The Kings Arms, Salcombe, south Devon, which has reopened following a major £370k joint investment.

The Milton family are well known in Salcombe, having previously run another Ei Publican Partnerships pub in the coastal town for many years, as well as currently operating a successful seafood restaurant and local wine merchant. Peter and Christine will be joined by their sons in running the new-look Kings Arms.

The new opening follows a significant transformation to bring the prominent site back its former glory. The extensive refurbishment, funded by a £300k investment from Ei Publican Partnerships, which forms part of the capital investment of c.£80m per year, that Ei Group continues to make in its pub estate.

The Kings Arms project includes major structural work, external decoration and new signage, as well as introducing a modern look and feel throughout. This features a revamped bar and upstairs terrace, new toilets, the installation of a commercial kitchen, as well as contemporary fixtures and fittings.

As part of the refurbishment, the pub has been repositioned with an exciting food offer. The upstairs restaurant will feature an outdoor terrace and major on locally-sourced seafood, with the downstairs restaurant and bar area focused on all-day dining, serving more traditional pub classics. The pub’s kitchen will feature a modern Bertha oven, which can be fired by charcoal or wood.

Christine Milton said, “We are hugely excited to have the opportunity to revive this pub and bring it back to a community venue that will welcome both locals and visitors to the area alike. It’s a big site, but we’re confident that with our knowledge of the local market and expertise in running hospitality businesses that the Kings Arms will be a great success.

“It’s great to have the ongoing support of Ei Publican Partnerships for this major project and their confidence in our offer for the future. We are very much looking forward to opening our doors and are excited to welcome guests into our fantastic new pub.”

The pub will also host weddings and christenings in the coming year, as well as introducing live music nights during the summer months.

Ei Publican Partnerships Senior Regional Manager, Peter Gatling added, “This is a key site in an admired location. Christine and her family have a tremendous track record of running hospitality businesses in the town and I have no doubt they will make it a success.

“We are happy to work with, and invest in, publicans that match our ambition and drive. This transformational redevelopment means the pub is looking fabulous once again and I very much look forward to watching the Milton’s flourish at the Kings Arms with a fresh approach for the benefit of the local community.”
