British Street Food Awards return to Portsmouth shopping complex

The world’s toughest street food competition is set to return to Portsmouth on 25-27 May. The southern heats of the British Street Food Awards supported by Hellmann’s will once again take place in Gunwharf Quays, offering visitors the opportunity to sample some of the very best street food from across the region.

Colin Wilding, General Manager at Gunwharf Quays, said, “We welcomed the competition for the first-time last year, and the response from our guests was incredible. Our unique waterfront location provides the ideal backdrop for some of the UK’s best street food traders to showcase their dishes and, offers guests a unique day out which combines delicious food and world class outlet shopping.”

This year will see even more finalists compete for a place in the national finals in London in September. More than a dozen traders, including Flour Power; a Cornish pizza street food business inspired by authentic Italian pizzas, Turo Turo; specialising in Filipino cuisine and Dolly; the world’s smallest food truck, a converted Citroen 2Cv serving dishes made from West Country free range eggs.

Richard Johnson, founder of the British Street Food Awards supported by Hellmann’s, said, “We are delighted that celebrated chef, Jon Marsden-Jones, Head Chef at the Michelin Starred Black Rat restaurant in Winchester will once again be joining us as part of the judging panel.”
