Iconic Brighton pub comes to market after over 30 years with family

A much loved Brighton institution, The Basketmakers Arms has come to market through Fleurets after being owned by the Dowd family for over 30 years.

Synonymous with the North Laine vibe since the late 1980’s, the pub has transcended every trend Brighton has thrown at it and set its own ‘bar’ in terms of style of operation over the years.

The pub features two open plan bars, catering kitchen, stores and large 3-bed flat above. The outside space is covered by an annual pavement licence.

The pub is situated in the heart of the North Laine just south of Brighton's mainline railway station with regular fast trains to central London. This area of Brighton has become synonymous with the bohemian Brighton style, with the area being known for championing independent operators who have, like the pub, had regular dedicated customers for decades. The whole area has high footfall through the year despite its back street boozer location.

Kate Dowd of Fleurets commented, “Both personally and as a firm we are very proud to be offering this amazing pub to the market. Many customers see this pub as being an integral part of their own life story and will be looking forward to its next chapter.”
