Shopping complex group, Intu is planning to invest £168m in a renovation and extension at its Lakeside site.
The ambitious proposal, submitted to Thurrock Council, will add approximately 40,000-sqm of retail space to Essex shopping centre, and around 30 to 40 new stores.
The plans also include a new state-of-the-art bus station, enhanced pedestrian and cycle linkages, and a new public realm.
Once the plans are approved, there will be 2,930 retail jobs created once the three year refurbishment is complete. The earliest start date for construction is expected in 2021, with the opening coming in 2024.
Intu Lakeside currently provides around 133,000-sqm of retail space, with over 250 shops including dining brands such as Gourmet Burger Kitchen, Las Iguanas, Prezzo Wagamama, and TFI Fridays.
