Tomlinsons Dairies falls into administration

One of the UK's largest dairy companies with 330 staff and operations in Chester and Shropshire, Tomlinson's Dairies in North Wales has gone into administration through PwC.

Wrexham-based Tomlinson's processed and packaged Welsh, British conventional and organic milk and dairy products to multiple sectors, from domestic households, local independents on the high street to manufacturing business and the biggest high street retailers.

Tomlinson’s had expanded rapidly in the past three years, doubling the size of its Minera dairy and adding a distribution hub at Ruabon to became a 200m litres-plus capacity dairy.

The administrators stated that significant cashflow pressure produced deteriorating trading results in recent months, with higher increased energy costs and low commodity cream prices two of the main factors.

The business made operating losses of about £5m to March 2018 but showed improving performance towards the end of March 2019, narrowing the operating losses to about £2m for the year.
