Pilgrims Pride completes £290m Tulip acquisition

One of the largest chicken producers in the US, Pilgrim's Pride has completed its acquisition of Tulip, the Warwick-based meat processor.

Tulip, which has more than 6,000 staff and 12 production facilities across the UK, was acquired from Danish Crown for £290m.

Tulip, which has brands such as Danepak, has nearly £1bn in annual sales and more than 6,000 employees.

Tulip has just introduced its first-ever vegan product (pictured) - Vegan Slices with Pepper - launched exclusively at Co-op under the brand, The Green Butcher.

Danish Crown said the move forms part of a strategy to simplify its UK business. Under terms of the deal, it will continue to supply Danish pork to Tulip.

Pilgrim’s employs more than 51,400 people and operates chicken processing and prepared foods facilities in 14 US states, Puerto Rico, Mexico, the UK and continental Europe.
