Artisan scotch egg brand, Scotchtails has launched its first permanent site at the new Borough Market Kitchen development in London's SE1.
Scotchtails’ founder duo Oliver Hiam and Dominic Hamdy, who also own all-day restaurant and wine bar, Crispin in Spitalfields, and specialty coffee shop, Lundenwic in Aldwych, serve an extended menu of their signature scotch eggs (made fresh to order).
There is also a collection of playful new egg-based dishes at the new shop, including ham, fried egg and crispy confit chips, a Berkswell cheddar and egg toastie and a guest scotch egg in collaboration with tapas gurus and fellow Borough Market resident Brindisa.
Scotchtails joins the likes of Mei-Mei by Elizabeth Haigh, La Tua Pasta and over 20 other new traders in the eco-friendly, communal dining space at London’s iconic Borough Market.
Scotchtails has emerged as a Borough Market favourite since first popping up at the iconic market in 2013; serving staple and more adventurous combinations of ingredients such as mature cheddar and smoked bacon; beetroot and lentil; and black pudding.
Hiam and Hamdy’s renowned scotch eggs are lovingly handmade in small batches in Hackney, using Burford eggs from Clarence Court for their dense, golden yolks and rich flavour.
The founders’ journey started at UCL, where they met, studied, and began experimenting with the humble scotch egg. Together, the pair launched Scotchtails in 2013 and since then have revived the once basic snack into a beloved British icon.
From Berwick Street Market to Borough, they continue to shake up London with their gastronomic picnic delights. Just a hop, skip, and a jump away from London Bridge, the new communal Borough Market Kitchen is single-use plastic-free and was constructed using recycled sustainable materials
Scotchtails’ new home features reclaimed green ‘London pub’ tiles, chalkboards and vintage brass lamps, giving the hatch a traditional-pub-meets-pie-shop feel.
